I got into perspective construction again for a bit (still have to finish that Scott Robertson book) and mypaint has everything you need for that, too: Fine control over line angles (snapping at 15 degree increments) and ellipse shapes (also snapping.) Finally, there is a fullscreen mode that hides all controls, in case someone wants to only use hotkeys and maximize screen space. Another thing I noticed was a new (to me) history tab showing recent colours and brushes. For those obsessive compulsive people, probably (I hear there are a few of those among artists), if you want 100% control of your lines! This is for you. There is also a tool to draw clean lines and directly manipulate them afterwards similar to a Path tool or bezier curves. The flood fill tool is very good now, with variable sensitivity and option to sample from all layers, as you can see it produces nice results. There's a toolbar along the top for tool selection, a properties panel on the right for configuration, and that's mostly everything you need to know to get started.I pulled the latest mypaint from git today and did a build, just to see what was new. Most of the application window is a blank canvas, and that's good because that's where the art happens. The MyPaint window got designed for sparsity. On Elementary, Mint, and other Debian-based distributions: $ sudo apt install mypaint On Fedora, Mageia, and similar distributions, you can install it with your package manager: $ sudo dnf install mypaint MyPaint is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS.

MyPaint manages to make it more comfortable to be in front of a blank canvas and empowering to produce something beautiful. When you sit down to do something, you generally want to do the thing, not spend hours learning new software or configuring a complex application. The ease of use part is important for artists and chronic doodlers like myself. One application I use when attempting to get some imagery out onto a canvas is MyPaint, a digital paint application focusing on a clean interface, appealing brushes and materials, and ease of use. I don't practice drawing, so I don't expect to be able to draw well, but I do sometimes enjoy drawing, regardless of skill.
